Concentration of Secrets

hello teacher, tell me, what's my lesson? look right through me.

nevada

darkening skies dim gray streets to a dusty blue
street lamps frost the sidewalk in medical light
fireflies swim lazily on currents of air and fog that settle
over the town in a sleepy haze; doors click hushed
into their frames, too preoccupied to open to
just another inconvenience

they seek shelter in the frozen food aisle, the lights
inside the freezers shrinking to winking reds
and greens on minimal power, the icy tiles and cold
metal, just another narnia, pushing them out with
the last empty shopping carts and bins of
reduce, reuse, recycle

save a brick-layed tunnel all sprinkled in dirt and sadness
there’s nowhere left to go

I enjoy pocket watches, stargazing, running lines, singing out loud, empty hallways, cribbage, novelistic endeavors, Flickr, Wednesdays, cutting my own hair, going into town, inside jokes, brick walls, vintage clothes, the oxymoron of being 'indie' like everyone else, elephants, moving my furniture, all-nighters, top hats, white rabbits, rock, old-fashioned perfume bottles, sleeping in, and misquoting people. I love walking in the rain or watching a thunderstorm from behind a window. I sometimes daydream about Christopher Dehn's voice.
